Collection Description

Collection name Nelson Hall Concert Programmes (1901-50)
Unique identifier ML42N
Description Nelson Hall Concert Programmes: 3 vols. (1901-50)
3 scrapbooks containing miscellaneous pasted-in programmes from vocal and instrumental chamber music concerts at the Nelson Halls in Dundee Street, McDonald Road, Hamilton Place, and St. Leonard's Street, Edinburgh. Ca. 90 programmes in each of the first 2 volumes (with some duplicates), and 45 in the 3rd. Not a complete collection, as not every season is represented, and there is a variable number of programmes per season. There is a wide range of performers, including Margery Kennedy-Fraser (5/3/09), and up until 1928 every concert is accompanied and chaired by R.F. McEwan (advocate), organiser of the series. Programmes are very basic, with just the names of the works to be performed, names of perfomers, and the date.
