Description Black Bear Music Club, Cambridge

A collection of 142 programmes for concerts given by the Black Bear Music Club at the Black Bear Inn in Cambridge between 17 February 1789 and 20 January 1807. All are single sheets presenting the list of works to be performed together with some, but by no means all, the performers, with the words of vocal items where relevant on the reverse of the sheet.

Programmes generally consist of eight to twelve items by contemporary, or near-contemporary composers including Avison, Corelli, Geminiani, Handel, Haydn, Pleyel and Vanhal. There are annual benefit concerts for Mr. Scarborough, organiser of the concerts and violinist, Mr Hague, also a violinist and Mr. Nicholls, a flaustist.

All are bound into a single volume Cam.a.789.1.
