Description

Newnham College Raleigh Society was founded in 1886 by Kate Raleigh (NC 1883 - 1886). This collection of approximately 70 programmes, posters and handbills includes the inaugural Raleigh Society concert given on 22nd March 1886, eight programmes for concerts between 1904 and 1926, two from the 1960s and the remainder from 1998 to 2011. Performances took place in Clough Hall until 1998 when the Old Labs were converted into a performance space, after which events were held in both venues. Chamber, orchestral and choral music all feature including lunchtime chamber recitals in the Principal's Lodge and later the Old Labs as well as concerts of music for the Festive Season held at the end of Michaelmas Term. New material is being added to the files as it becomes available.
