Description
This collection of programmes and typescripts of programme notes forms part of the Deryck Cooke (1919 – 1976) archive held at Cambridge University Library which was donated by his partner Hazel Hyde in 2010. Each programme or set of notes has been assigned an index number by Cooke cross-referenced by him against a list of works (A- Z by composer) in three A6 notebooks. Some of the programmes are galley-, or page-proofs with Cooke’s editorial amendments and word counts; many of the notes are marked with textual alterations perhaps for later iterations. The majority of the notes are for performances of 18th, 19th and 20th century orchestral works (including Cooke's completed edition of Mahler's 10th symphony) given in concerts by the major London orchestras at the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall, but there are also programmes for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at the Philharmonic Hall, for events in the Edinburgh Festival and for the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra.
There are a total of 360 items spanning 1953 – 1976 held in four boxes in two sequences: series A and series C (11 items only) as follows:
