Birmingham Private Concerts.
The Private concerts were inaugurated by Matthew Boulton and Joseph Moore; they initially took place at Styles Hotel (later Dee's Hotel). By 1829 the room was becoming too crowded for comfort, the only other large space big enough to house an orchestra was the Theatre Royal, and this was one of the arguments which enabled Moore to convince the Town Commissioners to build the Town Hall in 1834.
