Collection Summary
Collection Title
McCann Collection: Belgium (1926-1995)
Description
A collection of one box of programmes from the McCann Collection. The collection contains programmes from concerts given outside the United Kingdom and were collected by the concert agent Norman McCann (1920-1999).
Palais des Beaux-Arts – 5 programmes
The Flemish title is “Paleis voor Schone Kunsten”. The collection includes four programmes from the “Grande Salle”, one programme from the “Grande Salle Henry le Bouef (=Grote Zaal Henry Le Boeuf) and one programme from the “Salle de Musique”.
Other Brussels venues:
L’Hotel de ville de Saint-Gilles
Other Belgian venues:
Concertzaal “Koningin Elisabeth”, Antwerp; Bree Cinema [Bree]; Kursaal d’Ostende; Auditorium Minnepoort Leuven.
There are two programmes from the concert series “Concert Ysaye”, from 1932 and 1933. These do not specify concert venues, but other concerts in the series took place at the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels. There is a programme from a “Studioconcert” featuring works by Darius Milhaud. As the concert was organised by the “Belgische Nationale Radio-Omroep”, it is presumed that the concert took place in the radio station’s studio.
There is a prospectus from the competition “Concours internationale de chant Lyrique”. There are multi-venue prospectuses from the “Orchestre National de Belgique” and the “Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen”. There are three prospectuses or festival programmes from the Fetsival van Vlaanderen.
There is a programme from a concert organised by the “Harmonie Royale des Charbonnages de Mariemont-Bascoup”, where the venue has not been specified.
The collection includes opera programmes, largely from La Monnaie (Brussels).
