Description
A miscellaneous collection of programmes (with words) for performances given under the auspices of Exeter College, Oxford and Exeter College Musical Society between 1864 and 1914, with handbills for the Inaugural and Second Musical Evenings given by the E.C.M.S.(29 November 1902 and 28 November 1903).
Also, service sheets (with words) for Services of Carols and Sacred Music given on 1 December 1907, 29 November 1908, 28 November 1909, 4 December 1910, 3 December 1911, 30 November 1919, 28 November 1920, 4 December 1921, 3 December 1922 and 4 December 1927.
All items are held loosely within a single bundle. In addition to the programmes for musical performances, this bundle includes a copy of the College Regulations (October 1932) and a miscellaneous collection of terms cards for the Exeter College Debating Society/Stapleton Debating Society.
The concerts were two-part performances of solo and small ensemble vocal repertory, with some instrumental solos and typically with fuller pieces (choral or orchestral) at the start of the acts. Many of the performances included a large proportion of pieces by native composers.
Unless otherwise stated below, programmes include words, provide information about the Committee and/or Stewards for the concerts (from 1878), and contain lists of the choral and/or orchestral ensembles (from 1886).

4 June 1886: conducted by A. H. Brewer, including the first Oxford performance of Sir A. Sullivan, Cantata, 'Kenilworth' (with introductory note).
27 May 1887 and 28 May 1889: conducted by Mr A. F. Kerry.
23 May 1893 and 22 May 1894: conducted by Mr F. Cunningham Woods (with extended historical and descriptive notes for the 1894).
1 June 1897 and 23 May 1899: conducted by R. C. W. Pullen (no words).
