Description

A miscellaneous collection of programmes and programme books for performances given at the Barbican Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Royal Festival Hall and miscellaneous London venues between 2000 and 2006, held as the first of seven boxes comprising the Susi Dell collection.

Many of the concert programmes are accompanied by press cuttings and/or printed reviews and some are held with concert tickets.

The majority carry brief handwritten annotations which indicate any changes to the printed programme and provide Dell's observations on the performances, including records of any encores performed.

Unless otherwise stated below, the concert programmes carry words, notes and biographical notes (the majority with photographs). Where appropriate, they also provide lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles.

1. Barbican

13 January 2002: Celebrity Recital by Bryn Terfel (bass-baritone), accompanied by Malcolm Martineau, including the UK premiere of Jake Heggie, The Moon is a Mirror.
21 March 2002: Weber, Oberon, given by the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and Monteverdi Choir, conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
24 September 2004: Freiburg Baroque Orchestra with Cecilia Bartoli (mezzo-soprano), directed by Petra Müllejans (violin).
25 November 2005: Basel Chamber Orchestra with David Daniels (counter-tenor) and Magdalena Kozená (mezzo-soprano), conducted by Paul Goodwin.
24/25 January 2006: Shostakovich programme given by the London Symphony Orchestra with Maxim Vengerov (violin), conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich.
15/ 17/18 March 2006: Handel, Hercules, given by Les Arts Florissants and conducted by William Christie.
25 May 2006: Beethoven, Fidelio given by the London Symphony Orchestra and London Symphony Chorus, conducted by Sir Colin Davis.

22 February 2001: Scenes from Schumann, give by Robert Holl (baritone) and Roger Vignoles (piano).

3. Royal Festival Hall
The first three items listed here cover a number of performances given during the stated period. The concerts of 22 March 2004 and 3 and 24 March 2005 were given as part of the Classic International Series.

May 2001: Royal Festival Hall 50th Birthday Concerts.
2003-04: International Chamber Music Season and Lunchtime Recital Series.
22 March 2004: Handel, Radamisto, given by Zurich Opera, conducted by William Christie.
3 March 2005: Monteverdi, L'incoronazione di Poppea, given by Zurich Opera, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

18 June 2003, Westminster Hall [corrected to Westminster Abbey]: Coronation Jubilee Concert given by the Parliament Choir with Dame Felicity Lott and Sir Thomas Allen (vocal), the Trumpeters of the Life Guards and the Southbank Sinfonia, directed by Simon Over.
8 November 2005, Goldsmiths' Hall, Foster Lane: Piano Recital by Steven Osborne given for the City Music Society to commemorate the centenary of Michael Tippett.
