Description
A collection of programmes and wordbooks for 2 concerts given at St. James’s Hall, London on 2 November 1899 and 19 February 1900, held as part of a bound volume.
1.
2 November 1899: Burnand Orchestral Concert Company no.1, given by Mme Edith Grey-Burnand (mezzo), Mr Sydney Barraclough (baritone), Mr Sigmund Beel (violin), Jacques Renard (cello), Mr H.C. Tonking (organ) and Mme Hanka Schjelderup (piano), with the Fransella Select Orchestra, accompanied by Mrs S.A. Carmichael-Carr.
This was the first of three concerts – the remainder given on 15 and 29 November 1899 – and consisted of a two-part performance of vocal, instrumental and orchestral repertory, including the first English performances of music by Ange Flegier, Jean Renard, Theodore Dubois, Adrien Barthe. P.A. Steck, Hans Litt, Gabriel Pierne and Moritz Moszowski.
The programme includes a complete list of the orchestral ensemble and photographs of the principal performers.

19 February 1900: Grand Orchestral Concert in aid of the Marchioness of Lansdowne’s Fund for the wives and children of officers, given by a Plettro Orchestra of 500 performers, conducted by Signor Marchisio. This document includes extensive lists of both vocal and instrumental soloists and the orchestral members.
