Description
A collection of prospectuses and programmes for four seasons of activity given at the Imperial Institute, London between 1895 and 1898, held as part of a bound volume.
In each case, the musical arrangements are listed within a document providing detailed descriptions of the general activity at the Imperial Institute during the season. Lists of the committee and members of the Institute are provided, as are diagrams of the grounds and copies of the rules and regulations regarding access to exhibitions and collections.
Summer Season 1895 (commencing on 11 May 1895)
General prospectus for the season, including information about daily performances to be given in the Kiosk of the West Garden by the Strauss Orchestra of Vienna, under the direction of Eduard Strauss. This orchestra would also appear to have made occasional appearances in the Great Hall.
Winter Season 1895–96
Programmes for three concerts given at various stages during the evening of 11 March 1896. Also a programme for the final concert of the season (25 March 1896) and a summary of the other activities, musical and otherwise, taking place during the season.
11 March 1896
6.30pm: performance of dance music by a ‘Small Orchestra’ drawn from the orchestras of the Royal Opera House, Philharmonic Society, Richter Concerts and the Savoy Theatre, conducted by Edward O’Brien.
8.30pm: vocal and instrumental music given by the students of the Royal Academy of Music, under the direction of their Principal, Alexander C. Mackenzie (programme and wordbook including the names of the vocal and instrumental soloists).
10.30pm: Special Ladies’ Concert, largely of dance music, given by an orchestra formed from members of the Imperial Institute, conducted by Mr Louis d’Egville.
25 March 1896: Imperial Institute Amateur Orchestra last orchestral concert, with Miss Minnie Hope Morgan (vocal) and conducted by A. Randegger.
Summer Season 1896
General prospectus, including information regarding the appearance of the Monte Carlo Orchestra, conducted by Léon Jéhin (9 May to 24 June 1896). There are programmes for the Inaugural Concerts given as afternoon and evening performances on 9 May and claims that this pattern of concerts would be provided daily until 24 June in the Kiosk of the West Garden (to be moved to the Great Hall in the case of poor weather).

General prospectus, including information regarding the appearance of the Orchestra of La Scala Theatre, Milan, under the direction of Leandro Campanari. Also held are programmes, with a list of the orchestral ensemble, for the orchestral concerts given on the afternoon and evening of 9 May 1898.
