Handel Commemoration Festivals (1865-1912)
Description
A miscellaneous collection of loose handbills, programmes and wordbooks for performances given at the Crystal Palace, London between 1865 and 1912 as part of the Handel Triennial Festivals.
Also, a prospectus with programmes for the Handel-Mendelssohn festival given at the same venue in 1909 (with historical notes and detailed information regarding the principal vocal performers).
23, 26, 28 and 30 June 1865: Full Rehearsal, The Messiah, Selection, and Israel in Egypt, with Mr Brownsmith (organ), conducted by Mr Costa (handbills). Also, separate handbills with the General Arrangements and Special Arrangements.
25, 27 and 29 June 1877: The Messiah, Selections, and Israel in Egypt, with Mr Willing (organ), conducted by Sir Michael Costa (individual programmes with wordbooks, introductory notes on the Festival, historical programme notes (Preface) and lists of the principal vocalists).
25 June 1892: Judas Maccabaeus, given by Madame Clara Samuell, Mr Maldwyn Humphreys, Mr Santley, Madame Albani, Mr Edward Lloyd, Madame Patey (vocal) with Mr A. J. Eyre (organ), conducted by August Manns (handbill).
22 June 1912: General Rehearsal (handbill and programme with words, including a historical introduction to the Festival and providing information regarding the complete sequence of performances, given on 25, 27 and 29 June 1912).
Also, a prospectus with programmes for the Handel-Mendelssohn festival given at the same venue in 1909 (with historical notes and detailed information regarding the principal vocal performers).

Collections Overview
The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed books and music, libretti, paintings and engravings, memorabilia, art works and ephemera. The Handel collection is open for research Wednesday-Friday, and the display room (with access to recorded music) is open with the rest of the museum Tuesday-Sunday 10-6.
