Description
A miscellaneous collection of material relating to the performances give by the Bayerische Staatsoper at the Nationaltheater, Munich between 1964 and 1998, arranged in a chronological fashion, divided into three folders and held across two boxes.

The material is divided as follows:
Folder 1: 1964–77
Folder 2: 1979–80
Folder 3: 1983–98
Folders 1 and 2 are held in box 1 and folder 3 in box 2.

Folders 1 and 2 of the collection include a large number of programmes for performances given as part of the Müncher Festspiele/Festspiele der Oper München on the following dates:
4, 8, 9, 10 and 16 August 1964
26 and 28 July and 8 and 14 August 1966, with a single document for 4, 6, 9, 11, 13 and 16 August 1966.
19 July 1973.
22 and 31 July 1979 and 29 July and 1 August 1980.
All of these documents include historical, programme and biographical notes.

Folder 1 also includes programmes for performances given on 15 November 1964 (Hans Pfitzner, Palestrina), 19 February 1970 (Zimmermann, Die Soldaten, as part of Moderne Woche); 24 October 1975 (Gottfried von Einem, Der Besuch der alten Dame), and 31 January 1977 (Richard Strauss, Arabella) and a printed document concerning detailed of the staging and costumes for productions of Mozart, Die Zauberflöte, June 1977-September 1978. Folder 2 includes a programme for 17 June 1980 (Mozart, Cosi fan Tutte).

The final folder includes programmes (some with notes) for performances on 7 and 10 May 1987 and 30 October and 1 November 1998. Also, programme books (with extensive notes, including photographs and illustrations) for productions of Wagner, Das Liebesverbot (17 February 1983), Berg, Lulu (6 July 1985), Gottfried von Einem, Dantons Tod (6 April 1990), Beethoven, Fidelio (7 April 1990), P. Tchaikovsky, Die Jungfrau von Orleans (21 June 1990), Richard Strauss, Die Liebe der Danae (22 June 1990) and Rossini, L'Italiana in Algeri (18 March 1991) and an undated document containing biographical notes and photographs of the principal performers.

Building Information
The Portraits and Performance History Collection and its associated reading room is housed in a recently adapted space within the RCM's College Hall, its hall of residence for students. There is step-free access for visitors.
Collections Overview
The Centre for Performance History (CPH) is a research centre and is also responsible for the stewardship of two well-established RCM research collections, the Museum of Instruments and the Portraits and Performance History Collection (PPHC). The latter houses a diverse collection relating to the history of performance including the RCM’s internationally famous collection of images, comprising 340 original portraits and sculptures and 25,000 prints and photographs, forming the most comprehensive archive of likenesses of musicians in the UK. The collection of 600,000 concert programmes from 1720 to the present day is of major importance for research into the history of music, society and culture.
