A collection of handbills/programmes for 2 performances of contemporary music given under the auspices of the BBC at the Grotrian Hall/Arts Theatre Club, London on 7 December 1926 and 4 March 1929, held in a bound volume of material within the papers of Frank Whitaker.
This volume also contains English and German music journals, newspaper cuttings and extracts from various other publications concerning the development and performance of contemporary music and of the music of Bela Bartok in particular.
7 December 1926, Grotrian Hall: Six International Chamber Concerts of New Music no.3, given by the Amar Quartet (Licco Amar, Walter Caspar, Paul Hindemith and Rudolf Hindemith, first appearance in England), including the first English performances of Philipp Jarnach, String Quartet, op.16 and Paul Hindemith, String Quartet, op.22 (with brief historical and descriptive notes). Each concert in this series focussed on a different European country. This concert included music from Germany and the programme begins with a brief introduction to musical development there.
