Description

A collection of programmes with words for concerts given at Queen's College, Oxford between 1928 and 1935, under the auspices of the Eglesfield Musical Society, held loosely as the second of four envelopes.

Unless otherwise stated below, concerts were conducted by Reginald Jacques. With the exception of those given on 1 June 1928 and 30 May 1930 (concerts of vocal and instrumental solos), performances were given with the Eaglesfield Musical Society Chamber Orchestra.

4 March 1928, Chapel: Olwen Phillips [corrected to Mabel Ritchie], Mona Benson, Susan Turner, Frederick Burton and Frederick Grisewood (vocal).

1 June 1928: Mrs Stewart (cello), Ita Cope and Jean Duncan (vocal) and Jean Cotton (piano).

23 November 1928: Stuart Robertson (vocal).

3 March 1929, Chapel: Brahms' Requiem, with Alice Moxon and Stuart Robertson (vocal) (handbill with words).

31 May 1929: including Purcell, Dido and Aeneas (with annotations regarding changes to the performers and additional works performed).

2 March 1930, Chapel: Margaret Westbury, Frederick Burton, Crawford McNair and Oliver West (vocal).

30 May 1930: Vera Moore (piano) and Stuart Robertson (vocal).

2 December 1930: Winifred Gaskell (flute).

6 March 1931: Mrs John Sanderson, Marjorie Parker and Mr P. H. Phelps (vocal).

29 May 1931: Margaret Rees, Dorothy Brownlees, Oliver West and Roderick Lloyd (vocal) (two copies).

3 December 1931: Richard Wood (baritone) and Norman W. G. Tucker (piano).

10 March 1932: Elizabeth Aveling, Marjorie Parker, Frederick Burton and William Parsons (vocal).

2 June 1932: Frank Merrick, Peter Phelps and Marjorie Parker, including the first Oxford performance of Constant Lambert, The Rio Grande.

1 December 1932: Mary Wiblin (conductor).

9 March 1933: Margaret McArthur, Winifred Gaskell, Oliver West and Thomas Dance (vocal).

25 May 1933: Norman Stone (vocal), including the first performance of Kenneth White, Concert Piece for Piano and Strings.

30 November 1933: C. Thornton Lofthouse (piano).

24 May 1934: Thelma Bowles, Grace Bodey, May Bartlett and Frederic Sharp (vocal), including Purcell, Dido and Aeneas (two copies).

6 December 1934: Winifred Gaskell (flute) and William Parsons (vocal).

14 March 1935: Doris Banner, Edward Manning and William Parsons (vocal), including Parts I and II of Haydn, The Creation.

30 May 1935: Rita Carter, Molly Lake, Victor Evans and Gordon Phillips (vocal), including an abridged version of Handel, Solomon.

2 December 1935: Mary Jarred (vocal) and Mary Chandler (piano).
