Eighteen of these boxes contain material relevant to concert performances, the remainder being theatrical and operatic in orientation. Eland worked for the British Council, both in Britain and abroad, and the collection includes programmes from the major London organizations and venues including the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts and Royal Philharmonic Society Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and Royal Festival Hall as well as material from Europe (particularly Munich and Salzburg) and programmes for performances given by native and visiting ensembles in Japan. There are also a large number of festival brochures.
The majority of the programmes include words and historical, descriptive and/or analytical notes (some with musical examples). Many also provide biographical information about the performers, including photographs and lists of the choral and orchestral ensembles.
