Description
A collection of one volume of programmes from concerts organised by the Philharmonic Society, 1881 to 1889. The volume contains programmes from 1881 to 1884 and 1886 to 1889. This includes programmes from the 69th to 72nd, and 74th to 77th seasons. The concerts were given at St. James’s Hall, London. Conductors for the concerts varied, but included the following: W.G. Cusins (1881-1883); George Mount (1884); C.V. Stanford (1884); John Francis Barnett (1884); F.H. Cowen (1884, 1888, 1889); Arthur Sullivan (1886, 1887); Johan Svendsen (1888). The programmes include analytical programme notes and musical examples.
