Henry Wood Collection: Jubilee Concert (1938)
Description
A collection of one programme from the “Henry Wood Jubilee Concert”, 1938. The programme is from a concert given at the Royal Albert Hall, 5th October 1938, marking 50 years of his conducting career. The concert included performances by the BBC Choral Society, Philharmonic Choir, Royal Choral Society, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and Queen’s Hall Orchestra, as well as a variety of soloists. The consisted of symphonic music as well as choral works. The repertoire included non-British works, plus works by Sullivan, Bax, Elgar and Vaughan Williams. The latter was represented by a performance of his “Serenade to Music”, advertised as being especially written for the occasion. The programme includes portraits of performers and of Henry Wood.
