Paterson & Sons Orchestral Concerts (1899-1910)
A bound volume of miscellaneous programmes from the Paterson & Sons Orchestral Concert Series: McEwan Hall, Edinburgh (1899-1910). Each concert consists of the Scottish Orchestra conducted by Frederick Cowen and others (Wilhelm Bruch, Maurice Sons, Henry Wood, Peter Raabe, Siegmund von Hausegger, Hans Richter, Max Fiedler, Emil Mlynarski, Wassili Safonoff, Landon Ronald), with a featured soloist. Richard Strauss is also a guest conductor. Programmes contain lists of orchestral players, detailed analytical notes with musical examples, photographs of conductors and soloists, and song texts and translations. There are also newspaper clippings about the concerts pasted in. Programmes that are the last in their particular season also contain indices of compositions performed and of artists. There are notes of certain pieces that are being performed for the first time in Edinburgh.
